Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for questions to be raised about his future after another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from above,” the coach remarked.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”

He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Issues and Squad Response

Slot highlighted known failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.

“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell such as this with performances so bad.”

He finished, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is removed, we'll continue to battle.”

“We will attempt to get this team back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
