Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
