Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
