The fighter smiles as he points the video equipment on himself and his companion fighters, their Rapid Support Forces badges on display: "They will all perish in this manner."

These individuals are celebrating a mass killing that relief organizations believe claimed the lives of over thousands of people in the Sudanese urban center of el-Fasher in recent weeks.

A City Isolated from the Outside

After maintaining the city under blockade for almost an extended period, from the summer the militia advanced to strengthen its dominance and restrict the remaining inhabitants.

Space-based imagery show that fighters commenced to construct a enormous sand wall - a built-up sand barrier - around the boundaries of the city, sealing off roads and blocking relief supplies.
