Declan Rice Crosses on corner kicks and free kicks were dangerous. Was given license to drift on the left only to be offside when the ball arrived in front of goal. Granted a merited substitution after an hour. 6/10

The star midfielder Played in a high position out wide and contributed with defensive duties. Demonstrated moments of class but scuffed an attempt wide. Withdrawn late on by Rogers, his competition, after receiving a caution. 7/10

Jarrod Bowen Was presented with England’s clearest opportunity of the first half, his strike well saved by Thomas Strakosha. As a teammate holding position, he was forced to provide width on the right but his crosses from the touchline were inconsistent. Replaced with 15 to go. 6/10

The captain The match-winner scoring 77th and 78th goals at international level. The first a trademark close-range tap-in while the second a classy finish with his head following a clever run from his marker. Aged 32, he continues to improve and England stand a real opportunity in the upcoming tournament with him leading the line. 8

Eberechi Eze Found it tough to get into the game out wide. Had a good opening when set up from a teammate but Strakosha denied him. His replacement had a greater effect after coming on. 5
