This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
