Thrice-crowned Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic endures a 'devastating' leg setback.
Triple NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic endured a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee when the Denver Nuggets lost 147-123 at the Heat.
The star player sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half during an unintentional contact with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
The other player stepped on the footwear of the MVP, and he instantly went down to the court grabbing his knee.
The 30-year-old, who is leading the NBA this season in rebounds and dimes, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the contest prior to incurring the problem.
Jokic will undergo an MRI scan on the following day to evaluate the seriousness of the problem.
"Instantly, he realized he was hurt," commented Nuggets head coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Any player that suffers an injury, that's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as special as Jokic. We will know more tomorrow."
"The team will adjust as a team. Clearly, currently, I'm more concerned just about Jokic personally and the frustration of facing a situation of that nature."
